Research peptide glossary
Plain-English definitions of the terms you will see on research peptide labels and paperwork, from lyophilized to HPLC.
Lyophilized
Freeze-dried. Water is removed under low pressure and temperature, leaving a stable powder that is easier to ship and store.
RUO (research use only)
A label meaning the product is sold for laboratory investigation only, not as a drug, food, supplement or cosmetic, and not for use in people or animals. See what research use only means.
Bacteriostatic water
Sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol, used as a multi-use laboratory diluent. See bacteriostatic water.
HPLC
High-performance liquid chromatography, the method most often used to report a peptide’s purity. See how to read a certificate of analysis.
Mass spectrometry (MS)
A technique that measures molecular mass, used to confirm that the main component is the expected compound.
Blend
A single vial containing more than one peptide, such as the BPC-157 / TB-500 blend or CJC-1295 / Ipamorelin.
Lot or batch number
The identifier that ties a vial to the production run and any analytical documentation for it.
Copper peptide
A peptide bound to a copper ion, such as GHK-Cu.
